چکیده

During the development of an ontology it may be important to know which is the logic underlying that particular ontology, so that the developer knows what the expected complexity of reasoning over it will be. In this paper, we first present an ontology that describes several description logics and then two different classifiers that were implemented using our ontology. The tools classify the ontology according to the minimal description logic that covers all constructors used.

Background and Aim: Ontologies facilitate data integration, exchange, searching and querying. Open Biomedical Ontologies (OBO) Foundry is a solution for creating reference ontologies. In this foundry, the design of ontologies is based on established principles which allow for their interactions as a single system. The purpose of this study is to determine the main features of ontologies develop...

Ontologies in Ubiquitous Computing

Ontologies are an explicit specification of a conceptualization, that is understood to be an abstract and simplified version of the world to be represented. In recent years, ontologies have been used in Ubiquitous Computing, especially for the development of context-aware applications. In this paper, we offer a taxonomy for classifying ontologies used in Ubiquitous Computing, in which two main ...

Non-Uniform Data Complexity of Query Answering in Description Logics

In ontology-based data access (OBDA), ontologies are used as an interface for querying instance data. Since in typical applications the size of the data is much larger than the size of the ontology and query, data complexity is the most important complexity measure. In this paper, we propose a new method for investigating data complexity in OBDA: instead of classifying whole logics according to...

AORTE for Recognizing Textual Entailment

In this paper we present the use of the AORTE system in recognizing textual entailment. AORTE allows the automatic acquisition and alignment of ontologies from text. The information resulted from aligning ontologies created from text fragments is used in classifying textual entailment. We further introduce the set of features used in classifying textual entailment. At the TAC RTE4 challenge the...

Classifying ELH Ontologies In SQL Databases

The current implementations of ontology classification procedures use the main memory of the computer for loading and processing ontologies, which soon can become one of the main limiting factors for very large ontologies. We describe a secondary memory implementation of a classification procedure for ELH ontologies using an SQL relational database management system. Although secondary memory h...

2. Using Ontologies in Software Engineering and Technology

In this chapter, the state of the art on the use of ontologies in software engineering and technology (SET) is presented. The chapter is organized into four parts. In the second and third sections, serving as a supplement to Chap. 1,29 a wide review of the distinct kinds of ontologies and their proposed uses is presented respectively. In the fourth section, we offer a taxonomy for classifying o...
